Noteburner, developed by Noteburner Inc., has a single purpose; remove DRM data from protected files. DRM, if you aren’t familiar is code embedded in music files from download services that restricts the manner in which you use the purchased files. DRM can restrict how many times you burn the files to a CD, or restrict which computer can even play the track; DRM can restrict all sorts of options you use your music files, each service has a different type of DRM file. The good news is, DRM files are no longer used by the largest music downloading services such as iTunes or Amazon. But for those who still use services that employ DRM, it can be a big headache. To combat this, the folks at Noteburner Inc. developed this convenient little program.
Standout Features:
In truth, Noteburner does not come with a slew of features. This converter is not trying to be versatile and flexible software, but what it does do, it does well. The main intent of this software is to convert your music files into non-protected formats. This is the standout feature. No other program included in the MP3 encoder matrix can do this. Therefore, Noteburner is not trying to wow you with fancy accessories.
Noteburner was designed as a virtual CD burner, meaning it’s like a CD drive within your computer that integrates itself directly into your media player program. The program appears when you decide to burn a CD, you may choose your physical CD drive or choose the virtual drive established by Noteburner. Choosing the virtual burner sends the files in your playlist directly through to the converter’s interface. Once there, the playlist is processed, one track at a time until your files are in the format you choose. If you want to burn a CD with DRM file on it this software bypasses the prohibitive code and duplicates them internally. And the files are deposited into a folder established through the preferences menu.
The program itself is a bare bones affair. It simply lists the files and the status of their conversions. An audio player is included.
